Traditional regular focal length prime lens the Sony FE 50mm f/2.5 G Lens stands out for its very compact design. The versatile focal length suits shooting everything from street, portraiture, and documentary subjects, and it features an advanced optical design for well-corrected imagery with a high degree of sharpness and clarity. Additionally, the ultra-compact 2.7 x 1.8″ form factor makes it effortless to have handy at any time.

The lens design includes an extra-low dispersion and aspherical elements to reduce a variety of aberrations, color fringing, and distortion. To increase contrast while reducing flare and ghosting, the optics are multicoated. Balancing the optics is an XD Linear Motor system that uses two separate focusing motors to deliver especially quiet, precise, and quick autofocus performance. The lens also sports a dust- and moisture-sealed design to support shooting in inclement conditions.

Design

Designed to achieve notably high resolution and sharpness through the correction of a wide variety of spherical and chromatic aberrations. This lens features a robust and intuitive-to-handle physical design to benefit both photography and cine applications.
The lens’s extra-low dispersion element contributes to increased clarity and color neutrality by lowering chromatic aberrations and color fringing.
Two XD Linear Motors, along with an internal focusing design, provide quick, quiet, and precise autofocus performance. To change this setting, a tactile AF/MF button is placed on the lens barrel. This design also aids in more natural, intuitive Linear Response manual focus control.
The lens barrel includes a focus hold button for simple tactile control and quick access to particular settings.
Video programs can benefit from smooth, silent aperture switching by de-clicking the physical aperture ring.
Dust- and moisture-sealed design better permits working in inclement conditions and rubberized control rings benefit handling in colder temperatures.
The rounded 7-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality when employing selective focus techniques.
