The Sony a7R IVA, which pushes resolution even further, is the latest in a remarkable line of full-frame cameras with remarkable versatility and stills and video performance. This fourth version of the a7R boasts an improved 61MP sensor, faster processing, better autofocus performance, and a more extensive feature set suited for high-end photo and video applications.

With a broad 15-stop dynamic-range, low-noise, and remarkable resolution, the recently developed full-frame 61MP Exmor R CMOS sensor boasts backlighting. A copper wiring layer significantly speeds up data transmission, and the sensor’s design produces impressive image quality. This enables the production of high-resolution, 14-bit 61MP stills, capable of producing images with a native sensitivity range of ISO 100–32000, expandable to ISO 50–102400.

With this special compositing mode, you can attain even higher resolution than the 61MP sensor can provide. This mode moves the sensor over the course of 16 consecutive exposures when used in conjunction with sensor-shift image stabilization. This results in an amazing 19,008 x 12,672-pixel image and approximately 240.8MP of information, offering more color accuracy and detail than could be obtained from a single exposure. These files can then be combined in post-production using the Sony Imaging software suite.

For dependable and rapid autofocus and subject tracking performance, an upgraded Fast Hybrid AF system now uses a combination of 567 phase-detection points, which cover roughly 99.7% of the height and 74% of the width of the frame, and 425 contrast-detection areas. Additionally, this focusing system achieves enhanced low-light focusing response down to -3 EV, exceptionally fast speed, and reliable tracking.
